Hide some on-the-go snacks in your car

Hide snacks in the case you get hangry

Does it sometimes happen to you that you’re on the road and get hungry? And I mean, really hungry?  Maybe because of an unexpected heavy traffic, a bad eating plan or just forgot you had to eat?

If this happens to me, the following  scenario unrolls:

  1. I drink all the water I have in my car, hoping that this will satisfy my hunger.
  2. Because I drank it all too fast, I get nauseous.
  3. I try NOT to think of food.
  4. All I can think of, is food
  5. I’m getting ‘hangry
  6. I stop at the first gas station and buy 2 chocolate bars (Mars & Bounty or Twix)
  7. I intent to eat one and keep the other for later. I end up eating both.
  8. I feel even more nauseous, more angry and frustrated.

What was the solution?

Hiding a hungry ration, both in my handbag and in my glove compartment.

This gives me a sense of calm – I am ‘provided’ when needed. People around me are happy too: no hangry or frustrated mom, partner, colleague or girlfriend.

Tip for today
Hide a hungry ration in your car – just in case…

Because you do not want to eat your ‘hunger ration’ immediately, it is best to choose snacks that stay fresh, even in cold or warm weather.

8 snacks that you can easily hide in your car/handbag

  1. Nuts and seeds are the perfect on-the-go snacks. You can keep them for a long time in almost all circumstances and you don’t need much of them to feel satisfied. If I’m hungry, a few almonds and pistachios are usually enough.
  2. Granola bars. You can make them yourself, If you buy them, choose the healthiest variety – very often they contain lots of sugar, flavorings and preservatives.
  3. Dried fruit: Dried dates, apricots (without sulfur!), raisins and figs are perfect for your hungry attacks.
  4. Candied ginger: It does contain sugar and has a sharp taste. But just because of this 1 or 2 small pieces are mostly enough.,
  5. Healthy crackerssee also another blogpost about snacks
  6. Rice, corn waffles, quinoa, spelt, … waffles
  7. Fruit or vegetable chips
  8. A fresh banana or homemade banana bread : It is a great hunger killer, but please don’t leave it in your car too long!
