Pay it forward

During one of my morning walks in Lisbon, I got thirsty. I only had some pocket money with me (-> €0.60). I bought a drink of €0.55 in a small supermarket …..
At least that’s what I thought until I got to the checkout. €0,55 turned out to be the price for regular customers with a special card. I had to pay €0.90.
An unknown man behind me saw this happen and paid the difference. Fantastic! I was so grateful.
When I came into a coffee bar the next day, I paid for the coffee of the person standing behind me. I admit, that took some courage. We are not used to this.
In the States they call this ‘pay it forward’. It means that someone who receives an act of kindness, passes it on to someone other than the original benefactor.
Whatever they call it, it gave me a very good feeling to pay for the coffee and make a young woman happy. It made my day!
Tip for today
Do a ‘pay it forward’ – pass on an act of kindness.
There is a beautiful movie called ‘Pay it forward’. Absolutely worth watching.
This little clip shows you what pay it forward can mean.
