Help a friend moving

Help your friends moving can in different ways

When it comes to moving, most of us need all of the help that we can get.

Tip for today (or for the day your friend moves):
Help a friend move. There are quite a few ways you can lend a helping hand that don’t include carrying a heavy couch down the stairs (though that would likely be much appreciated).

Here are 6 other things you can also do that will be of great help.

1.   Bring them a meal

Try not to bring over anything that needs to be put in the oven or that will result in a lot of dirty dishes. Aim for something simple that can be eaten without utensils, such as sandwiches or pizza. Can’t stop by? Order them food, pay for it, and have it delivered to their home. Just be sure to let them know it’s coming so they’ll answer the doorbell when it rings.

2.   Watch their pets

Moves can be stressful on pets, Volunteer to take your friend’s dog for a nice long walk, or better yet, offer to keep their pets at your place during the hours they’re loading and off-loading items on the moving truck.

3.  Make them a packing playlist

Help your friend stay upbeat and energized during the packing process with a playlist of tunes made just for them. This is an especially great way to help if you can’t be there physically.

4.   Help them get rid of stuff

While your friend is packing, or even before, help them organize items into “yes,” “no,” and “maybe” piles. The “yes” items get packed, the “no” items get thrown out, recycled, or donated, and the “maybe” items get a quick look over before being put in either of the other two piles. Encourage your friend. Getting rid of things that no longer serve a purpose for them, can be a hard thing to do.

5.   Bring over extra supplies

You can never have enough boxes, packing materials, or markers when you’re moving.  Give your friends a call and ask if they’re running low on anything, then offer to pick those items up and drop them off.

6.  Help pack

Assisting with packing is a valuable favor you can provide. You don’t have to do all of the work, but you can stop by for an hour and get the front hall coat closet or the items under the bathroom sink packed.
