Run the washing machine only when it is full

Run your washing machine only when it is full

It’s an old fashioned saving tip, but it’s worth repeating anyway.

With modern machines, the wash will take longer if  there is more laundry in the drum. If there is less weight, it will take shorter.
Nevertheless, the water does need to be heated, and the motor does need to run. And you do use detergent every time.

And on top of that, with a fuller machine, your laundry comes out cleaner (according to test by the Consumers’ Association).

A nice rule of thumb: if you can put a fist (upright) between your dry laundry and the top of the drum, you’re good.

Tip for today:
Run your washing machine only with a full load.

2 small remarks:

  • In order to avoid  bright pink sporting socks I would not wash your whites together with your brightly coloured clothes. Even if your machine is not full … Wait a little longer, till you have a fuller machine or till you have nothing clean to wear anymore.
  • For fine laundry and wool it is better that your machine is only half full, it will be handled more gently in your drum.
Real men do laundry!
