Choose products packaged in glass instead of plastic

This tip ties in with one of our tips from last week about bringing your own containers.
It is clear that glass is better for the environment. It is made from natural raw materials and contains no toxic substances that are released when burned. It is 100% recyclable and can therefore be reused without loss of quality.
But glass is also:
Safe: Plastic can leak hazardous substances and some plastics contain plasticizers that are carcinogenic.
Impermeable: It forms a good barrier against moisture, gases and contamination, keeping food and drinks fresh longer and preserving vitamins better
Clean: It is hardly scratchable, which is good, because scratches can contain dirt in which bacteria can grow. Glass does not discolor, for example by tomato sauce and does not take over odors.
Beautiful: It is much more elegant to present food from a nice glass jar, than from a plastic container.
Producers still choose plastic because it is simply cheaper to produce (In fact, it was once even cheaper to produce than to recycle), can be molded into all kinds of shapes and transportation costs are significantly lower because of the lower weight.
Tip for Today
Be kind to the environment and choose for glass over plastic.
