Write a Sinterklaas letter

Write a Sinterklaas letter

It’s almost that day again:  Sinterklaas’ Birthday. In Belgium & the Netherlands Sinterklaas brings presents to kids.

Make it extra fun this year by taking some work off Sinterklaas’ hands by helping him with his letters.

Small tip: Sinterklaas always writes his letters in rhymes. So you have no choice…. you will have to rhyme otherwise it looks like an imposter has been busy.

Tip for today
Write a Sinterklaas letter for your children, your partner, your colleagues, your friends,…

Step by step manual to help you write in rhymes
  1. Write down what topics you want to cover: character, events, hobbies, work, a certain behaviour (no inspiration ? Check the Social Media account of that person).

  2. Write for each topic 2 sentences that rhyme with each other – I’m not much of a poet myself, so I look for rhyming words on the internet (e.g. https://www.rhymezone.com/)

  3. Change the word order so that you put an easy to rhyme word at the end.

  4. Do not cling to a specific word, that only produces crooked sentences. Try to say it in a different way or choose another topic.
It should not be a complicated rhyme scheme, as long as the rhythm is right

  5. Read the poem out loud and change where you think it stumbles a bit.

  6. Think of a fun climax, a wise advice or a compliment for the end. If you don’t find a suitable ending, you can always write: “I am out of inspiration, I hope you enjoy my donation.

  7. Put the letter in a graceful font and place a curly signature as the real Sinterklaas would do. If you print the letter on sturdy off-white paper you get a nice result.
