Visit an elderly

Visit an elderly who is lonely

Today is : ‘Cheer Up The Lonely‘ Day.

When I asked around in nursing homes how I could be of service to residents, I always get the same answer: pay them a visit.  It does not matter if you know them or not. It does not matter if you (or they for that matter) are talkative. Just acknowledging them and be there works magic.

Tip for today:
If you know any elderly, pop round to chat over a cup of tea.
If you do not know any one personally, go to a nursing home and ask them who would like a visit.

Don’t be afraid that this is kind of awkward. Think of the smiles you will generate.

Research suggests that loneliness is as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. It is pronounced a “hidden killer” of elderly. It is no longer only a mental state, it is a real disease.

It does not matter how many times I hear the song Happy from Pharell Williams, it still makes me smile. But especially this version is so cute.

60 residents and staff of a retirement village combined all their considerable talents to come up with this tribute. They wanted to show their children and grandchildren just what they’re made of!
