Show a stressed-out colleague your support

Show your colleague your support

If you know that a colleague is very busy or stressed about something,  give him/her a signal that you want to support them.

If you are physically working together, this could mean you bring them a coffee, tea or something sweet with some uplifting words.

If you don’t see your colleagues ‘live’, you could send them a supportive message or a card in the mail.

Tip for today

Let your stressed-out colleague know you support them.

What can you do at work when things get a bit too much for you?

We all know that smashing up your computer or resigning whenever the going gets tough is not the best strategy. But what is?

I asked around. These were the answers I got:

  • Getting something to snack on.
  • Going for a walk or at least stretching the muscles.
  • Letting off steam with a colleague.
  • Listening to an upbeat, motivating song.
  • Watching a funny movie.
  • Doing some kind of sports.
  • Taking a few deep breaths in and out.
  • Putting everything aside and getting a coffee.
  • There was even someone who said: cleaning my office.

No one said they were thinking about doing something kind for another colleague. Understandable. But an ‘act of kindness’ can be THE thing that give you a small happiness boost very quickly. That is now scientifically proven.

Helping others and giving them a smile is a very easy way to lift your spirits.

So maybe we should flip the tip:
Every time YOU feel stressed, don’t just do something for yourself, but also give a colleague a big smile!

This will not only brighten your colleague’s day, but you will feel better too.  That’s what we call a win-win!
