Next time you’re going to refuel, buy a scratch-off lottery ticket and stick it on the pump.

By doing this, you are giving someone else :

• A pleasant surprise, because nobody expects this.
• A few moments of tension and hope, before they actually scratch the ticket.
• Maybe they’ll get a nice amount of cash, but if not, you gave them at least a big smile.

The hardest part is not buying the ticket or hanging it up for someone else. It’s the idea that you gave the ticket away and that it might be a winning ticket.
But there is a way to deal with that. Just buy two lottery tickets and keep one for yourself. And the realisation that you are giving hope to someone, is in itself a reward.
