Read a story to a grown-up

Read a story to an adult

We often read to our children, in bed or  nestled close to each other on the couch. I cherish these  blissful, intimate moments. And then the kids get bigger and suddenly these moments stopped.

And that’s actually a pity, because reading aloud or being read to stays special, even as a grown-up!

Research shows that when adults read to each other it gives a feeling of comfort and connection. Participants said that when someone is reading aloud to them, you feel a bit like you’re given a present of their time and their attention,

Tip for today
Read a story aloud. It doesn’t matter to whom, kids or adults.

Especially elderly love it when someone read to them: the newspaper, an article from a magazine or a nice story.  Unfortunately, for now, it may not be possible to do this one-on-one. But isn’t  it a great idea to do so through an online channel?

By the way .. not only elderly people like it ;-).

And while you’re at it, you can benefit from it too. Here are some of the benefits for both the listener and the narrator.

  1. It creates closeness and intimacy between reader and listener.
  2. It sharpens focus.
  3. It increases vocabulary.
  4. It results in greater reading comprehension.
  5. It enables better retainment of content.
  6. It gives an opportunity ‘to play’.
  7. It improves listening and reading skills.
I smiled when I saw this clip and it made me wanting to read a story to  somebody.
