Bring your own container to the butcher’s and other stores

One of the reasons I try to buy as much as possible at a fresh counter or at the farmer’s market is to avoid the plastic packaging.
When I go grocery shopping, I bring my own containers. My shopping bag is already filled with reusable jars and bags (for nuts, for fruits and vegetables, for cold cuts, for eggs, …) when I leave our home.
In the beginning I found it extremely embarrassing to hand over my own containers. But now the notion that I want as little waste as possible prevails. The vendors know this by now and they keep smiling at me – so I assume they are totally fine with it.
I hope that one day bringing your own packaging will become the new “normal”.
