Wrap your presents the zero-waste-way

zero-waste wrapping

Did you know that you can wrap your gifts with things that are good for nature?
No annoying tape, tacky paper or tasteless bows?
Think of it as your Christmas gift to nature!

Tip for today
Wrap your present with zero waste!

Here are some tips:

Replacement for wrapping paper:

  • Upcycle packaging paper into gift wrap: When you receive an online package, the cardboard box often contains brown or silky paper to cushion the goodies inside. You can use this for your presents.
  • Wrapping with the Furoshiki technique: This technique of wrapping in fabrics is huge in Japan. You can use: sheets, pillowcases, scarves, old towels, rags, napkins, …During the year I keep my old rags for cleaning purposes (see also this post) or I bleach them and use them for Furoshiki.
  • Other materials you can use: old newspapers (that makes it really retro), old maps, glass jars, or recycled wrapping material from last year.

Usually people find these kinds of wrapped gifts super charming!

Ribbon & tape replacement: string, hemp twine, leather shoelaces or of course ribbon that you recycled last year.

Replacement for Name tages: To get the ‘charming, nature’ look, you can recycle toilet rolls. Roll them open, cut them to size, make a hole in them and put the cord through them.

Adding extra decoration: Dried citrus fruit, cinnamon stick, herbs, evergreen, pine cones, … will embellish your presents.

Have fun with your way to give back to nature!!
