Displaying lights during the Christmas season is as old as the holiday itself. The type of lights were different of course and used for different reasons, but light was just as important during the dark winter holidays days in early days as it is today.<\/p>\n
In Northern Europe, fires were made and candles were lit during the winter solstice as a symbol of the (re)birth of the sun.<\/p>\n
The Christians adopted this lighting custom with candles during the Christmas holidays and made it Christian symbols by connecting the lights to the Christmas Star of Bethlehem.<\/p>\n
And then finally in 1882, one of Thomas Edison’s employees had the “luminous” idea of using the light bulb, which had just been invented, in a garland. And voil\u00e0 the Christmas lights were born.<\/p>\n
