When our Arthur was born, he had to go to daycare very soon. I had my own business and could not afford to stay at home for 3 months. You know, 25 years ago, technology did not allow me to work from home.<\/p>\n

I still remember those first days, with tears in my eyes and a heart full of guilt I dropped him off.\u00a0 I hated it. And it certainly wasn’t the caregiver’s fault, because she was fantastic and had tons more experience with small children than I did.<\/p>\n

It was only years later that I heard from child care specialists that, as a parent, you don’t need to feel guilty. The fact that your child is raised by others as well as by you from an early age has many advantages. It promotes social development, it ensures a healthy independence of your child, it stimulates general development<\/strong> and your child notices that there are other environments than home or family. It learns to deal with the rules that apply in different environments. Children who are used to childcare and feel safe and secure in that place build up a lot of self-confidence.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tip voor vandaag<\/strong>
If you have been looked after by a babysitter, day-care centre or childminder in the past, it will be a pleasure for them if you show them your gratitude. Even though you may not remember them, they will be happy if you tell them that they have been important in your life.<\/p>\n

Toen Arthur geboren werd, moest die al heel snel naar de onthaalmoeder. Ik had een eigen bedrijf en kon het me niet veroorloven om 3 maanden thuis te blijven. 25 jaar geleden liet de technologie niet toe om van thuis te werken.<\/p>\n

Ik herinner me nog die eerste dagen, met tranen in mijn ogen en een hart vol schuldgevoelens zette ik hem \u2019s morgens af. Vreselijk vond ik dat. En het lag zeker niet aan onze onthaalmoeder, want die was fantastisch en had tonnen meer ervaring met kleine kindjes dan ik.<\/p>\n

Pas jaren later hoorde ik van opvoedspecialisten, dat je als ouder geen schuldgevoel hoeft te hebben. Het feit dat je kind van kleins af naast zijn ouders ook door anderen wordt opgevoed, heeft veel voordelen. Het bevordert de sociale ontwikkeling, het zorgt voor een gezonde zelfstandigheid van je kind, het stimuleert de algemene ontwikkeling<\/strong> en je kind merkt dat er ook andere omgevingen zijn dan thuis of bij familie. Het leert zo omgaan met de regels die in verschillende omgevingen gelden. Kinderen die gewend zijn aan opvang en zich veilig en vertrouwd voelen op die plek, bouwen veel zelfvertrouwen op.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tip voor vandaag<\/strong>
Als jij vroeger ook bent opgevangen door een babysit, kinderopvang of onthaalmoeder, zal het hen veel plezier doen, als je hen hiervoor je erkentelijkheid toont.
Ook al kennen je jou misschien niet meer, het is fijn als je iemand het gevoel kan geven dat hij\/zij belangrijk voor je is geweest.<\/p>\n
